- De palavras novas também se faz país
neste país tão feito de poemas
que a produção e tudo a semear
terá de ser cantado noutro ciclo. - É fértil este tempo de palavras
em busca do poema
que foge na curva das palavras
usadamente soltas e antigas
distantes da verdade dos rios
do quente necessário das brasas
do latejar silencioso das sementes
dentro da terra
quando chove. - Proponho um verso novo
para as laranjas (por exemplo) matinais
e os namorados
com que havemos de encher todos os dias
os mercados. - Proponho um verso novo
para a gueira do peixe sem contar
para a abundância da carne
e a liberdade das aves desenhada
no amor das escolas
dos campos
e das fábricas - Proponho um verso novo
para o leite obrigatório em cada dia
e a medalha olímpica
que o riso das crianças já promete. - Proponho um verso novo
para o milho a mandioca suculenta
o amadurecido cacho de dendém
alegre na fartura dos dedos
e das bocas. - Produzir na palavra
é semear e colher
é cumprir na escrita
a produção. - Produzir na palavra
é cantar no poema
todas raízes
deste chão.

- Auch aus neuen Wörtern macht man ein Land
in diesem Land, das so sehr aus Gedichten entstand
dass all dieses Schaffen und Säen
in einem andern Zyklus besungen werden muss. - Fruchtbar ist diese Zeit der Wörter
auf der Suche nach dem Gedicht
das den Gang der Worte meidet
die abgenutzt, schlaff und alt sind
weit entfernt von der Wahrheit der Flüsse
von der notwendigen heissen Glut
vom stillen Spriessen der Saat
in der Erde
wenn es regnet. - Ich empfehle einen neuen Vers
für die Orangen des Morgens (zum Beispiel)
und für die Verliebten
mit denen wir jeden Tag
die Märkte füllen werden. - Ich empfehle einen neuen Vers
für die unzähligen Kiemen der Fische
für die Fleischesfülle
und für die grosse Freiheit der Vögel sichtbar
in ihrer Liebe zu den Schulen
zu den Feldern
und zu den Fabriken. - Ich empfehle einen neuen Vers
für die tägliche Milchration
und für die Olympiamedaille
die das Lachen der Kinder schon verspricht. - Ich empfehle einen neuen Vers
für den Mais und den saftigen Maniok
für die ausgereifte Rispe der Palmen
vergnügter Überfluss in den Fingern
und Mündern. - Produzieren mit Wörtern
ist Säen und Ernten
heisst mit Schreiben
sein Soll erfüllen. - Erschaffen mit Worten
heisst alle Wurzeln
dieser Erde
mit Versen besingen.
